2010 Subaru Outback at Schlossmann's Subaru City

2010 Subaru Outback

Love. It's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru. Introducing the all-new 2010 Subaru Outback.

When leaving it all behind, start with your limitations. Love the Possibilities.

A new hobby.  A new favorite drive.  A new way to engage with life every day.  Subaru vehicles are uniquely designed and equipped to get you out, to connect you to the road, and to inspire you to embrace more of life's opportunities.  It all starts with the balance of Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.  Standard on every Subaru, it gives you the stability and control to drive where you want-always with the greatest confidence.  That poise is matched with the reassurance of being protected by award-winning safety.  It's why we hear again and again, "I love my Subaru."

All wheels.  All roads.  All the time.

By combining the balance and road adhesion of Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with the stability of the SUBARU BOXER® engine, Subaru builds more than cars- we build confidence.  Confidence that can help you enjoy getting there as much as being there.  And it can help you feel the freedom to live more of the life you love.

Better grip for better adventures.

All-road Agility      All-weather Conditions      Active Safety      Confident Handling

Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive

In any season or condition, confidence behind the wheel comes from one place-where your tires meet the road.  Wet or dry.  Rough or smooth.  .  A sure grip of the road can give you the control to step around danger.  The assurance to add more destinations to your list.  The engagement to delight in every mile.  Subaru has spent nearly 40 years developing a system for traction and control that employs an almost perfectly symmetrical layout to maximize power delivery to the wheels, and to generate balance and stability for total control in almost any condition.

Better Balance

Every 2010 Subaru is built for AWD from the ground up.  Each one features a longitudinally mounted engine that feeds power to the all-wheel drive system in a straight line.  Which results in a balanced drive-train with almost total side-to-side symmetry that is free of the extra components some other systems need to route power.  This symmetry and balance means stability that helps make driving your Subaru safer and agility that makes it more fun.

Quicker Response

There are only four small patches of rubber that keep you in control of your vehicle.  The more your tires are engaged, the more control you have.  Subaru Symmetrical AWD keeps power routed to all four tires all the time, so it doesn't have to react to slippage that has already occurred.  Rather, it keeps your tires as fully engaged with the road as possible.

Efficient Design

Because some systems lack the simplicity of Subaru Symmetrical AWD, they could not sacrifice efficiency, but also can incur more wear and tear.   Subaru routes power directly from the engine to all four wheels to keep components- and frictional power losses- to a minimum.  All while maximizing the seamless feeling of traction whenever you need it.

An engine that runs on good ideas.

Subaru Boxer Engine

We think about engines a little differently.  We believe an engine should deliver both power and control.  It should conquer back roads and handle parking lots just as well.  That's why every Subaru is powered by the SUBARU BOXER® engine. Its horizontally opposed design and symmetrical layout provide plenty of smooth acceleration, but also balance and stability that sets it apart from engines with "V" or inline configurations.  It's an intelligent difference that has the power to inspire you to go further every time you set out.

Horizontally Opposed Design

The pistons move in 180-degree opposition to each other on a horizontal plane, so each naturally cancels out the vibration of the piston opposite it.

Durable Design

The engine's flat design is inherently rigid, and reduces the amount of vibration that "V" or inline engines-with more upright pistons - are subjected to during operation.

Lower Center of Gravity

The flatter profile and perfectly symmetrical design of the engine block, and the fact that it sits lower in the chassis, make the overall vehicle more stably balanced and resistant to side-to-side motion than other designs.

Smoother Operation

Step on the accelerator and the revs come on smooth. While there's plenty of power when you need it, it never compromises your comfort or control.

Increased Reliability

An engine subjected to less vibration lasts longer.  It's no wonder 94% if Subaru vehicles built in the last 10 years are still on the road today.1

Greater Agility

The vehicle responds more quickly to changes in direction, which gives a feeling of tightness in turns.  And it's less likely to become unstable during maneuvers, giving you an increased feeling of being in control at all times.

Life begins at dirty.

Ruggedly capable.  Incredibly driveable.

Up to 256 Horsepower      Lineartronic? CVT      8.7-inch Ground Clearance

All-condition Performance

Remote hiking trails?  Muddy single track?  Powdery ski runs?  Whatever fills you with wanderlust, the Outback has what it takes to fill you with confidence on your journey there.  Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive holds tight to virtually any surface you encounter on the way.  Opt for the efficient 2.5i and get smooth, reliable performance to power you through.  Or, get the 3.6R and have 256 horsepower seamlessly on tap. If the way turns rough, 4-wheel independent suspension with class-leading ground clearance will help you take it on.  And the Outback now features a double-wishbone rear suspension and improved wheel articulation to combine smooth-riding comfort with inspiring responsiveness.

Lineartronic? CVT

The price of performance has just been reduced.  Lineartronic? CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), now available on Outback 2.5i models, can save you gas money and shrink your carbon footprint.  This innovative technology infinitely adjusts the transmission to match your acceleration needs-maintaining the optimal rev range at all times.  The need to shift is removed, and vehicle momentum is preserved, thereby reducing fuel consumption.  And for tackling steep grades, or for quicker acceleration, 6-speed manual mode and paddles shifters give you immediate access to higher revs and more engine power.

Get out there.  Fit it in here.

Versatile Roof Rack     Underfloor Cargo Storage    71.3 cu. Ft. Cargo Space

Cargo Capacity

From mountain bikes to water bottles, the all-ne Outback is better equipped than ever to conveniently load all the gear that goes along with embracing your adventurous side.  Keep more items conveniently at hand with an array of compartments, pockets and holders.  You'll have eight cup holders, door handle pockets sized perfectly for a cell phone or an MP3 player, and a two-stage center console bin, among others.  In the back, cargo hooks that fold flush when not in use help keep items where they belong.  And the underfloor cargo-area storage compartment keeps valuables safely and discreetly stowed, as well as having a spot perfect for storing the retractable cargo cover.

Integrated Roof Rails

When gear has to go on the outside, the Outback can easily accommodate some pretty heavy-duty equipment.  The easy-to-reach roof rack system-standard on the Outback- will hold up to 100 pounds.  And because Subaru has a wide selection of accessory attachments available, it can quickly be made to accommodate your particular idea of adventure.

Retractable Cross Bars

A new take on taking it with you.  This unique design, available for the first time on the 2010 Outback, features cross bars that fold up and tuck away into the body of the integrated roof rails.

It's a convenient way to reduce wind noise and improve vehicle aerodynamics, and avoids the problem of having to store the cross bars when not in use.  What's more, they come standard on every Outback.

Live bigger.  There's room.

More Interior Space

For 2010, the interior of the Outback has been completely redesigned with expanded proportions in almost every area.  This new design makes getting in, getting out, loading and unloading easier and your adventures more enjoyable.  Not only is there more headroom in front and back, but the driver and front passenger will enjoy a sizable increase in hip room, and rear occupants will have nearly four inches more legroom.  And with features like 60/40 folding rear seats that allow you to haul large items and passengers, all this space is just as intelligently distributed as any previous Outback.

Reclining Rear Seats

Even with the significant increase in room for rear passengers, those in the back still might desire a more relaxing and comfortable ride.  With the reclining rear seats-new for the 2010 Outback- all they have to do is pull the lever, lean the rear seat back and their part of the journey will be made all the more rewarding.

Ready, willing and comfortable.

Dual-zone Climate Control      harman/kardon® Audio      Voice-activated Navigation

Interior Features

In the 2010 Outback, you'll find the right features designed in the right way to make every journey more rewarding.  Long and short treks are more enjoyable with optional power adjustable front seats, now with power adjustable lumbar support.  Also, if you opt for the 9-speaker harman/kardon premium audio system, all of your adventures will have a stunning soundtrack.  And you won't have to ignore the scenery or the road to enjoy the convenience of available features like steering wheel-mounted controls, the voice-activated navigation system, and Bluetooth® hands-free calling.

This is how we show our love.

Building Cars That Last.

Life is too important to slow down with a car you can't rely on.  That's why we build each of our vehicles with the highest standards of manufacturing, and with designs that are inherently tough, and engineering that can keep you going, and keep you out there.  This commitment is why 94% of all vehicles we've built in the last 10 years are still on the road today.1  And why a Subaru can keep its value, and stay out of a landfill longer.

Supporting Partners That Care

Subaru has spent decades building relationships with dozens organizations that believe in building a cleaner, greener, healthier and more hopeful world as much as we do.  That's why you'll see us offering our support at events like Dining Out for Life, or promoting responsible recreation with Leave No Trace.  Our recent Share the Love sales event harnessed the generosity of Subaru owners to raise nearly five million dollars for deserving causes like the ASPCA and Habitat for Humanity.

Protecting Your Investment

Once you're part of our family, we'll be there for you.  Every Subaru comes with 24-hour roadside assistance for 3 years or 36,000 miles.  If you have trouble on the road, a tow to the nearest Subaru dealership and other services are just a phone call away.  And to protect you over the long haul, we offer Subaru Added Security® - extended service agreements and maintenance plans that will help protect your car for up to 7 years or 100,000 miles.  They're the only mechanical and maintenance plans backed by Subaru of America, Inc., and because we've been backing them for more than 25 years, they're agreements you can trust.  Your dealer has full coverage details.

Ensuring You're Fully Covered

We know you lover your Subaru, but sometimes accidents happen.  Subaru Equity Shield? GAP could help you avoid further sorrow by paying all or most of a possible difference between what your insurance company covers for your Subaru that was totaled, or stolen and not recovered, and what you still owe in payments.  It will even cover your deductible for up to $1,000.  Also, being part of the Subaru family may save you money on some types of insurance, such as auto and homeowners.  Subaru owners may be eligible for exclusive rates through Subaru Advantage Insurance by Liberty Mutual.

Exceptional Control

Safety begins with avoidance.  The traction and balance of Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and the stability of the SUBARU BOXER® engine provide you with the outstanding control you need to react to hazards.  Every Legacy also comes standard with VDC electronic stability control, which can detect a loss of control and intervene to keep you on your intended path.

Stopping Power

Powerful and reliable vented disc brakes are teamed with advanced technologies to help you stop short of danger.  Antilock brakes help make sure you don't lose traction, and the advanced Brake Assist system helps ensure maximum pressure is applied to the brakes as quickly as possible un an emergency situation.

Subaru Active and Passive Safety

When it comes to feeling confident, nothing is more important than feeling safe.  That's why Subaru places safety as one of our highest priorities, and why we think about safety in 360 degrees.  First, we engineer our vehicles with exceptional control and advanced accident-avoidance technologies to help keep accidents from happening in the first place.  Then, we build every Subaru with protection technologies that have won safety awards and distinctions year after year.  The end result is a car that- in a worst-case scenario- is one of your best possible bets.

Increased Awareness

Before you can avoid danger, you have to see it coming.  Not only is the all-new Outback designed for excellent visibility on all sides, it is now available with the rear vision camera.  This feature- standard with the navigation system-gives you a clear view of the area behind your vehicle, so can always be in charge of your surroundings.

All-around Protection

Our Ring-shaped Reinforcement Frame is exceptionally strong for maximum resistance to impact energy, while its unique configuration helps divert that energy away from occupants.  To further help prevent injury, an array of sensors, including the new rollover sensor, can detect an impending crash and deploy front, front-side and side curtain airbags3-working to surround and cushion outboard occupants.

The Earth isn't disposable.

Neither is a Subaru.

The Legacy is designed for maximum enjoyment out on the road, but at Subaru, we put just as much emphasis on minimizing what we leave behind.  First, we build vehicles for maximum durability, because the more time spent on the road is less time in a landfill.  It's why 94% of the vehicles we've built in the last 10 years are still on the road today1.  We also work diligently to cut waste before the car ever rolls out of the factory.  In 2004, Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc.  (SIA) became the first manufacturing facility in the U.S. to reach zero landfill status- nothing from its manufacturing efforts ever goes into a landfill.  Subaru facilities in Japan have achieved similar goals in reusing and recycling.  And, because clear skies are just as important as clean landscapes, the Legacy has been recognized with Partial Zero Emission Vehicle-PZEV4- status and Smartway®5 certification. It achieves such cleanliness and efficiency without the negative environmental impact required to manufacture many vehicles with battery-based drive systems, and without compromising performance and versatility.

2010 Subaru Outback - What the Auto Press Says:
The 2010 Subaru Outback ranks 1 out of 5 Affordable Full Size Wagons. This ranking is based on our analysis of 10 published reviews and test drives of the Subaru Outback, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.

If you're looking for the practicality of an SUV without all the negative associations, you should consider the newly-redesigned 2010 Subaru Outback. It features all-wheel-drive, an excellent ride and lots of room for your cargo.

The Subaru Outback continues to offer a solid value for car buyers looking for an alternative from the mainstream car market. It is functional, practical and represents an outstanding value proposition, especially at the lower trim levels. The Outback is cross-shopped against both wagons and SUVs, as it falls somewhere in the middle of those two categories. In many ways, it's the ultimate split personality: the convenience of an SUV, thanks to its large cargo area, and the drive ability of a sedan, thanks to its nice ride. In fact, Motor Trend has named it Sport Utility of the Year and Popular Mechanics has named it their Most Versatile Car for 2010.

Completely overhauled for 2010, the 2010 Subaru Outback has more space for passengers and cargo, as well as a new optional 3.6-liter V6 for more power. While Subaru owners have a reputation for being "alternative," the new Outback is sure to expand the Subaru fan base beyond the usual stereotype. The value on the lower trim models are impossible to ignore. Popular Mechanics says: "Subaru owners may be odd in some ways, but they're nothing if not practical about their vehicles and determined to wring every last ounce of value from their purchases. And there's plenty of value in the new Outback -- as long as you stay near the bottom of the price ladder."

The 2010 Outback is available in the following trims: the base 2.5i, the 2.5i Premium, the 2.5i Limited, the 3.6R and the 3.6R Premium.

"The 2010 Subaru Outback is an excellent vehicle. Now it goes toe-to-toe with the Hyundai Santa Fe and the Toyota Venza instead of the Audi A4 Avant or Volkswagen Passat 4Motion. But if you were hoping this new Outback was going to remain a tidy all wheel drive (AWD) wagon made smarter for you and roomier for guests, you'll be disappointed with Subaru's newest SUV." -- Edmunds

"Sharing many structural and mechanical elements with the also-new-for-2010 Legacy sedan, Subaru's contemporary AWD crossover gets an extra measure of everything that really matters to the active-lifestyle buyers it's seeking: bolder character, enhanced functionality, and improved performance." -- Motor Trend

"The 2010 Outback is bigger and better than before, but it's still a proudly eccentric and weirdly wonderful mashup of station wagon, SUV and Australian off-road pretense. " -- Popular Mechanics
"For 2010, the Outback gets slightly bigger (taller and wider, but actually about two inches shorter than the 2009), roomier and more refined, with a more-powerful optional six-cylinder engine." -- Fort Worth Star-Telegram

"If you need a very good car and you don't need flash, get the 2.5i with some frills. If you need a very good car and you want a little bit of zip, get the 3.6. Either way, you're buying a terrific piece of equipment that offers the fortitude of a bison wrapped in the appeal of a pony." -- Autoblog
Outback Performance - 8.6 (Very Good)
The Outback gets good reviews on its all-wheel-drive and its choice of engines. Edmunds says, "The hallmark Subaru all-wheel-drive systems are still here. The smooth boxer engines are still intact -- minus the turbo, of course. And the clever attention to detail that Subaru is known for remains."   Read More

Outback Exterior - NA
In a class known for bland exteriors, the 2010 Outback is easy on the eyes. Popular Mechanics says, "The new Outback looks upscale, and it's beautifully assembled with precise panel fit and doors that shut with an authoritative thud."

Outback Interior - 8.8 (Very Good)
The interior is where the 2010 redesign really makes a difference. The Outback was already great for carrying cargo and transporting passengers in comfort, but now it's even better. Motor Trend says, "Base, Premium, or Limited trims, the upscaling process is equally evident in the Outback's Legacy-inspired cabin treatment." Read More

Outback Safety - 9.9 (Excellent)
The IIHS has deemed the 2010 Subaru Outback a Top Safety Pick, as it gets top scores from them all-around. This is due in large part to the Outback's long list of standard safety equipment.    Read More
